NOMENSLAND
STUDIO
In lands without names, we find what must be told.
We tell stories from the edges of reality — where humanity is tested, where silence screams.
Founded by director Gabriel Chaim, Nomensland Studio was born at the intersection of cinema and journalism, with a commitment to turning testimony into language, and pain into memory.
We produce documentaries and special reports that cover conflict zones, human endurance, and transformation under extreme conditions.
Each image holds a world. And that's where we live.
No place too tough. No distance too far.
We go where the story demands.
Unreachable zones. Unseen stories.
We deliver footage where crews can't go.

A regular contributor to renowned media outlets such as BBC, RTL, CNN, NBC, Spiegel TV, and Globo TV (Brazil), Gabriel has covered the war in Syria since 2013, offering unique perspectives from different vantage points. His focus has often been on the liberation efforts against the Islamic State from the eyes of Kurdish soldiers. In Aleppo, he spent almost two years documenting the besieged city on the war against Bashar Al-Assad.
His groundbreaking work included the use of a drone to reveal the destruction of Kobani, Syria, from a never-before-seen perspective in the war zone. The year 2018 took him to Yemen, where he documented the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe for two months, spending one month covering north, alongside Houthis. In 2019, Gabriel captured the human flow in Libya and the plight of refugees trapped in detention centers in Tripoli.
His dedication to capturing the human experience in conflict zones continued in 2020 when he ventured to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) from the Armenian side, producing impactful reports for BBC that went viral. Gabriel covered the Russian invasion of Ukraine from the early days, where he showed the drama of civilians who lost everything in his documentary "Shelter, Innocents Under Fire" which won a silver medal at the New York Festivals in 2022, and was Emmy nominated.
Among his compelling documentaries are "Syria on the run" (2014), "Kobani lives on" (2015), "Trenches in the desert" (2016), "Mosul, margins of a war" (2017), "Yemen, a forgotten country" (2018), "Allies" (2019), "Blood gold" for BBC (2021), "Shelter, innocents under fire" (2022), "Evel, Hazin - mourning days" (2023), and "Salma - On Roots and Losses" (2024), each shedding light on different aspects of conflicts worldwide.
His artistic talent also caught the attention of U2, with whom he collaborated during their world tours "Innocence and Experience" and "Joshua Tree," utilizing his drone footage from Syria and Iraq, adding a powerful visual element to their performances.
"I don't wish for anyone to see what I've seen, but people need to know about real life, the real world. The world isn't as beautiful as we want to believe."
In 2023, Chaim became the first Brazilian journalist to conduct an exclusive face-to-face interview with Ukrainian President Zelensky, broadcasted at Globo TV in July 2023. In 2024, he released his first book, "10 Years of Endless Wars," and in early 2025, HBO's original series "Cameras Under Fire" featured his story in its first episode, which follows the lives of 8 photographers covering war zones.
